At the hospital – good news 4

August 20th and 21st

I went to the main hospital in Lausanne (CHUV – Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudois) at lunch time on Thursday 20th, to the Emergencies section and was soon put in contact with the facial surgery department, who could not confirm an appointment but would call me back.  Late afternoon I got a message asking me to report at  8.15 the next day.

This I did and to my great surprise was very quickly being received by a lady doctor in the facial surgery department.  After a few tests she confirmed that I had no functional disorder and that there would be no need to operate.  The fractures were “normal” for this type of accident and were not misaligned.  But she wanted to see me again in a week (Friday 28th) when all the swellings had gone down.  My family doctor should take out the stitches around Wednesday.

Conclusion:  I will rest and eat a lot the next few days and will try to continue the circuit as from August 29th, weather permitting.

Whoops! Seems my note yesterday might have been premature; your ‘going home’ was not necessarily ‘the end of the road’! Well, ever onwards, though is the terrain not too difficult around the northern side of Suisse to ensure you can base Basel before foul autumn weather sets in? We’ll hear soon enough, I’m sure.

    Best for the rest,

I’m relieved, after all your adventures in desolate places . I was happy to have news of Fritz in Pontresina. pl. give him my very best regards if you meet him again. Cross fingers.

Great news Rupert about not needing the operation. A good opportunity for you to make the most of the coming days to rest and recuperate.
Keeping my fingers crossed for clement weather in September.

Greetings WEST FACE (or is it the EAST side?) – sorry to be facetious but I couldn’t resist … V & I are keeping fingers crossed for your speedy recovery. We have only just found your website (due to recent computer prob.) but we assume that you will not now make it to the METHS AGM. Until a couple of weeks ago, we were also non-starters, but all good now. I suppose there is no chance of receiving your annual (statutory) Chairman’s report?? Perhaps we can refer to last year’s and read that again (no member would notice -sleepy buggers!!) but you are a serious candidate for the WILLY WARMER which has been found – lying on a table in Vanuatu (no joke)

    Take care and WDYFO
