Nous avons quitté la Cabane Bertol à 5 heures du matin et sommes montés à la Tête Blanche avec d’autres groupes en train de faire la Haute Route de Chamonix à Zermatt. Il avait gelé pendant la nuit et la marche avec des crampons était un vrai plaisir. A tel point que nous avons continué sans s’arrêter et nous étions bientôt dans les moraines du Glacier de Zmutt en face de la Cabane Schönbiel. Ces moraines étaient fastidieuses mais nous en sommes sortis à la fin et avons pris les chemins menant à Zmutt et à Zermatt, tous les deux avec des pieds endoloris. Dave a pris le train à Martigny pour chercher sa camionnette de l’entrée du tunnel du Grand St-Bernard, tandis que j’ai passé un après-midi et une soirée sympathiques avec Sally et Neil qui sont venus en train.
Congratulations Rupert, on reaching Zermatt. You are doing incredibly well. I look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks. Too bad about having to skip a few peaks, maybe you — or we — can fill in the gaps another year. Peter

Rupert, you seem to be making steady progress, shame about the Dent d’Heren, but I guess you can always come back another day. The main thing is to enjoy the adventure and experience! Wish you well on the next stage of the trip across the big 4000’s, take care.
Ps Envious of you being out in the high mountains right now, I am just back home from my hip operation and adjusting to a limited excercise routine on flat lands of Cambridgeshire.
